Cowbell

Holy Smokes – not sure when this place opened, but we’ve been 5-6 times since we heard about it, and it’s spectacular, friendly and ‘good’ eccentric.  Highly recommend the burger with zinfandel, bacon and onion compote – and homemade ketchup.  Mmmmmm.  Compote.

the company burger

Nom nom nom – fantastic burger joint helping the Freret St. resurgence serving up incredible burgers, lamb burgers and good tunes.  Get there early.

Mayas

mayas restaurant & bar

While the logo and website are a bit peculiar, a few of us have lunched at Mayas on Magazine Street recently and loved it.  The tuna tartar was absolutely incredible, and the vibe was nice – cool and dark, nice hustling staff.  Interesting place, and one I’m sure we’ll hit again.

gott gourmet cafe

Huge fans of this casual but delicious place on Magazine.  The food is spectacular but accessible – rarely do we all leave a table so universally pleased with our meal.  I thought that the Gott Salad was ridiculously good (topped with panko-friend brie croquettes – are you kidding me?), and the guys all raved about their sandwiches, all served on great-looking paninis.  Allan says that the weekend breakfasts are incredible – Thumbs way up.

Theo's

theo’s pizza

Our office was delighted a few weeks ago to see a new Theo’s had opened up on Canal in Mid-City.  Same menu as the Magazine store.  Aside from the killer pizza, the Jalapeno Bread Sticks are bangin, the drinks are gargantuan, and the staff’s great.  We’re big fans.

Wow, we love The Ruby Slipper – great menu, good coffee drinks, and a really nice atmosphere – a wonderfully renovated Mid-city gem.

willie mae’s scotch house

Whoa.  We hit Willie Mae’s this past Friday, and all left sat-is-fied.  What a unique and awesome place.  Places like this make New Orleans New Orleans.  Willie Mae’s great granddaughter is in the kitchen, and it’s cash only and one of a kind.  Be prepared for a post-meal fried food coma.

A colleague of ours was involved in the production of a terrific video about Willie Mae’s journey back after Katrina – take a look!

This is one of our ‘heavy rotation’ lunch spots (N. Peters location). Mmmmm, burritos.  Nice French Quarter tourist watching, free refills, and a full bar just in case.

Parkway Bakery & Tavern

parkway bakery & tavern

Mmm, Parkway.  Great Po-boys and covered outdoor seating.  This low-key jernt routinely gets international accolades for its Po-Boys.  Delicious. And, as Ben would say, “Clown-Free”.  That’s a good thing, trust me.

swipe_steins

stein’s deli

Fantastic, well-stocked deli at Magazine and Jackson. Mmmmmn.  Lots of cold and eccentric bottled beverages.

swipe_monas

Love the Vegetarian Platter at Mona’s – either Mid-City or Marigny.  Yum.  The jury’s still out on the Lebanese Iced Tea with floating pine nuts.  Only complaint is that an online menu seems to be non-existent.

Can’t count how many times we’ve hit Slice – great stuff, good people, and low ego emissions.  Interesting mix of tattoos, lawyers and junior leaguers.  Delicious and cheap pie, too.  You’ll see someone there you know.
